Air bags are one of the best inventions since sliced bread. Many lives are saved each year from the use of air bags in a crash. Your car may have frontal airbags or both frontal and side. Either way they are triggered to inflate using a harmless gas upon impact of a moderate to severe nature.

Placement of the air bags are important to know. Most frontal air bags are placed in the steering wheel for drivers and dashboard for passengers. If you have side air bags also they can be found in the doors, the seats or the roof near the door jam.

Air bags do save lived most of the time, but there are some things you need you know. You should never sit too close to an airbag. Air bags inflate with enough force that if you are close to it they could inflict major injuries or even be fatal.

Many efforts have been made in the way of safety features to help in roll overs. Rollovers injure and kill many people every year. They have discovered how to engineer cars to make them less suitable to rollovers, such as seen in top heavy & high profile cars, they use electronic stabilization and air bags also.

Tires are a easy safety precaution that many ignore. You should check the tires conditions and pressure at least once a month to make sure they are in tip top operating condition. And you should never put more weight on your tires then the manufacture recommends.

If you are shopping for a new car for your family shop safety over appearance. You can use the safety rating system that cars are given to determine how safe they are. They are rated based on safety features implemented and test done.
