It was more than a hundred centuries ago when the first people settled in the peninsula of Baja in Mexico. The first settlers were named Pericu, an Indian tribe who came to settle in this area bounded by a desert and an ocean. Before the 20th century, the place was a haven for the pirates.
By the early 20th century, groups of Americans have started fishing for tuna in the area, and from there, the town was established when the fishing company, Compania de Productos Marinos, S.A. was put up.
The area was a small fishing village before the government made roads and infrastructure. It was in the 1970s when the town started to develop. The Mexican government had put up some infrastructures in the area that led to its progress until it became one of the popular destinations in Mexico.
In 1990, a Van Halen band member and famous American rock singer, Sammy Hagar, built the Cabo Wabo Cantina and from then on it stayed as one of the most popular tourist attractions in Cabos San Lucas.
The place has become more progressive and developed into a grand vacation destination. Los Cabos International Airport was built to cater to existing tourists and to invite more travelers to Cabo. It has then become a destination of cruises from the Pacific coast.
These led to the rise in a number of five-star accommodations and resorts in the island as tourists frequent the place. Famous celebrities have also come to own villas and vacation houses in Cabo San Lucas.
Aside from the sandy beaches, the town tenders a wide range of activities like fishing. In fact, the place is known to be the "Marlin Capital of the World" as Marlin fish are abundant in its clear waters. And sport fishing has become one of the town's main activities, year round fishing tournaments are held with a jackpot prize as high as 1 million dollars.
Other activities in Cabo San Lucas include horseback riding and golf. And as the place also exude a romantic atmosphere, many couples from the US pick this town as their wedding venue.
