Trucking Insurance premiums are based upon a number of different things. Their focus is to determine the financial risk and probability of the driver being in an accident. Insurance providers want to make sure that they are not putting themselves at too much risk by insuring the truck driver.

The safest age range for drivers is between the ages of 30 and 65. Drivers outside of these ages statistically have more accidents. Therefore the drivers in the preferred age group will be offered lower premiums.

Preference is given to drivers that have a high number of years of commercial truck driving experience. Being familiar with the route and equipment being used is also a plus for the truck driver.

Drivers have a lower risk of being in an accident if they have been working with the same employer for a number of years. This is due to the experience that they will have with the route they drive and equipment that they will be using.

An evaluation of the truck drivers driving history will be done by the insurance provider. Any previous accidents will raise their premium because that puts them at a higher risk of being in another one.

Having previous trucking insurance coverage will warrant some extra questions from the new insurance provider. They will want to understand why the driver is changing providers and will be able to verify their answers. It is vital to be honest in all responses.

If there are any concerns about how any of the above will affect your particular situation contact an insurance broker. Brokers work with a number of insurance providers and are very knowledgeable about the trucking industry and could easily answer any of your questions.
