Sometime ago a real estate tycoon purchased a tiny island off the east coast, intending to develop it into a vacation resort. While surveying the property he decided that the island would be big enough for a small hotel with a golf course. He wanted to add a brick retaining wall to surround the property for privacy and also visual enhancement. A contractor presented the plans when the owner realized he had a big problem that he hadn't planned for. How would he get all of the building materials from the mainland to the island? This question led to another one, how would he transport the guest to the island as well? His solution was to buy pontoon boats. He would be able to use the pontoons for transporting materials and helping the construction of the island hotel area, later having his staff transport the guest to the island. Solving two problems with one answer.
The following day our man had located a boat dealer in the area and was able to purchase three pontoon boats. A larger, more detailed pontoon boat would be delivered later for the opening of the hotel to transport the guest. The pontoon boats used for construction and transportation were basic models with fourteen feet of open work space, just what was needed to build the planned rock retaining wall. With the pontoons being open this provided a platform area for a stable work area. With the start of construction two weeks later the crew worked quickly and being so efficient was able to complete the work in a timely manner.
When the workers needed to berth in shallow water, they found the pontoons to be especially helpful. Berthing in shallow water could not be done in other type of boats. With the versatility of the pontoons the construction crew were able to mover around the island with much ease and less stress. The contractors could roll out their blue prints right on the deck and work directly from the dock. Never having to be concerned with tipping over or falling into the water the platform was so stable. The pontoon boats made such an impact on the owners of the construction company with the strength and durability of one that they decided to buy a small fleet for themselves for their next marine project.
The completion of the island project was done within the time frame set. Our businessman was so happy and impressed with this crew that he gave them a wonderful bonus, in thanks of a job well done. With the beautiful rock wall surrounding the resort, the owner was pleased with his investment. He was also happy with his pontoon boats. Without them the materials being transported to the island would have been a big headache. This is the time where pontoon boats are being used more for work projects than recreation. It is the best of both worlds, work and recreation. Many uses of pontoons are starting to be noticed by all.
