It takes more than mental preparation to stay up and handle a booth in a craft fair. There’s more to it than just guarding the booth all day or looking bored about it. As much as possible, first and foremost, the one who should be guarding the booth is the owner himself. This is most recommended when you are a starter at the field of craft fairs. There’s a reason why, and it will be explained later.

Firstly, if this is your first time, it is rather unwise to try and hand your position out to other people when handling a booth in the craft fair. As the owner, it is your responsibility to carry your booth. Just think of the impression people would have when they know that you, as the proprietor, is not available at the site. As the owner, it is your responsibility to promote your products and your booth.

Primp your booth up appropriately and with simple effects. Avoid being an attention grabber too much, especially if you are not sure of what you’re doing (being a newb if you are one). Observe and learn from other people in the fair as well, especially those that seem to have years of experience behind them. Talk and converse, share ideas and learn from the over all experience.

Have at least someone to watch out for you too. You will have to eat and do your “businesses” sometime during the day, so have someone you trust (be it a family member or a relative) to go and stand post in your booth or table while you do your thing. Have that person also be very familiar with your product or craft in case someone comes along and asks about it while you were away.

Handling a booth will be a very different experience each time, but with each experience, you will find that the job will only get easier and easier. Take notice and you won’t have to have a hard time during the craft fair.

I was once a member of a painting class back in high school and it left me with a lot of experiences I will always remember. It was through that class where I met my future husband and became a full-blown art aficionado. The experience opened to me the beauty of art and beauty around me. That is the reason why I also took up art classes in College. Since then, I became a huge art fan.

The Pendleton Art Center in 1537 Winchester Ave., Ashland Kentucky holds an Acrylic Painting class for beginners. Young ones are encouraged to get creative as they are offered hands on classes that will maximize their potentials and work on their creative juices. If given an opportunity, I would love to have my own kid attend this class so she can enhance her creativity and her social skills.

Acrylic paints are different from watercolor, although both are water-based meaning they can be thinned down by water. Acrylic paints are thicker and dries quickly and thickly. It is more often used in large canvas applications. Acrylics come off opaque although it can be thinned down by mixing drops of water into the paint. Mediums can be added to the acrylic paint to play with the flow or consistency to suit the artist.

Acrylic has chemical compositions that could dry quickly that are why it is important to place a few drops of water on it on a regular basis to retain its flow.

In the acrylic painting class, kids are given wide sheets of paper to work on. They are not really given the real acrylic paints but cheap and safe paints that almost have the same color as the real thing. They are allowed to spread paint on the white sheet and not reprimanded if some went to their clothes or faces. These paints are water based and can be washed down with water after.

Finding a good opportunity for your craft to shine? Looking for a place to exhibit your art? Scouting out a good niche or a good market? Ever just wanted to be prepared for the whole year so that no surprise festivals will get past you?

Florida Fairs and Festivals seems to have answered a lot of my concerns when it came to dealing festivals, crafts, bazaars and events that had to do with art, food, and everything that has to do with exhibits and such.

The site offers a good deal in the form of a trial membership. You can opt with 99 cents for the trial membership, lasting 3 days. But you basically get everything the regular members enjoy with their membership. Being a member entitles you access to their lengthy database of current events and festivals. This includes all important and vital information regarding the events, like names, dates, location, types of events and something specific, even like what types of vendors or exhibits will they accept and allow.

The site gives the information out in an easy-to-understand and easy-to-access format. This can save you LOTS, and I mean, LOTS of time going over pages and pages of directories just to have a little bit of an idea of what, when and where an event would be, disregarding what it is and what they will allow.

You get detailed information on things like rental fees, application deadlines and all possible general information. It’s like a mini-kit for everyone who has the motivation to take their craft and hobby seriously.

Florida Fairs and Festivals not only includes events that exhibit your work and hobby, but also events that “could” make good use for you. Things like local baseball games where park food is sure to be a hit or something like that. There is a pretty good thought in “thinking outside of the box” as they say.

Vermont had been mostly dependent on what the good earth produces for them. Agriculture, in Vermont, produces at least a good market of close to two billion six hundred million dollars of income affecting directly, and indirectly the state of Vermont’s economy.

In the previous two centuries, logging had been the forerunner of Vermont’s economy. This over cutting and serious exploitation of the mountain forests had made Vermont’s floral system less appealing over the years however. Most of the forests that have been cut down are used for farms, but over the recent centuries, these farms had slowly disappeared. Vermont’s land and forest were allowed a chance to recover during that time.

Vermont’s apparent lack of industrial areas had also saved it from building and industrial failures, most of some of the surrounding states are still suffering from. The only industry that still exists up until today, (and is currently successful) is Vermont’s dairy industry. Most of Vermont’s forests are second-generation.

Dairy farming has been one of the more profitable industries in Vermont. At least a thousand farms still exist, though this is at an alarming figure. While milk production rose thanks to new technology, the market share of the state slowly declined. A large amount of this milk is also shipped into the Boston market and most farms may not sell their milk without a certification from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Another area of industry that is slowly growing in Vermont is the manufacture, packing and sales of artisan foods, fancy and novelty items and usually those from patisserie shops. Some of these brands include Cabot Cheese, Vermont Butter and Cheese, ginseng, Lake Champlain Chocolates, King Arthur Flour, and Ben and Jerry’s Ice Creams. Items include high-quality paint, teddy bears and snowboards which are exported from the state.

There are four sculpture-type pieces of art hanging around Texas, if anyone doesn’t know. The Beer Can House, the Blueprints, the Broken Obelisk, and The Orange Show.

The Beer Can House, a structure inspired by the thought of beer (more probably by inebriation caused by said drink) was created by Houstonian John Milkosvich. An eccentric piece made up of beer cans, marbles, brass pieces, wood and cement; it now stands as Texas’ monument to the folk arts. The house is now operated by the folks of Orange Show Center for Visionary Art.

The Orange Show was what had started and inspired the above mentioned organization. It was the work of one man who had the inspiration and creativity to transform his home into a labyrinth of walkways, paths and arenas decorated with paintings, mosaics and metal sculptures and figurines. Today, the mentioned organization, the Orange Show Center for Visionary Art, had grown from this tradition and had become a non-profit organization dedicated for the promotion, preservation and presentation of modern pieces of art and that of pieces people have created to express life, emotions and fantasy.

The Broken Sculpture is one of the six sculptures of by Barnett Newman. It is the in image of “Cleopatra’s Needle” except for the fact that it is…well, broken. The sculpture is displayed in the Red Square of the University of Washington.

The Blueprints are one of the most eccentric metal works I’ve ever seen. Designed to be like oak trees, the metal poles manage to hold at least five different metal panels designed with the original blueprints of the municipal building, the park, the bridge and the water pumping facilities. There’s two municipal building blue prints there.

The Texans sure do have a lot of love for pieces of art.

California’s most scenic and most well-known natural park is the Yosemite National Park. The massive park is overlooked by the Sierra Nevada, an impressive mountain range. Just don’t visit during the winter to be on the safe side. The winter storms here are both daunting and dangerous, directly and indirectly.

There are lots of things to do around the park. Hiking across virgin dirt trails and off-road, fish in the clear waters of the lakes and streams, go rafting in the exquisite Toulumne River and explore towns inspired by the last-century gold rushes. And if camping and tents and roughhouses aren’t your thing, you can always go to a nearby motel for your overnight stay.

The park is lush with everything. From rock climbing mountain faces (of note are El Capitan, Half Dome, and Sentinel Rock), to some of the most beautiful of meadows like the Toulumne Meadows (same name as the river) and the Dana Meadows. There are also the legendary Sequoia trees California is famous about, these redwood trees sprouting up as high as 200 feet and even higher.

A lot of things can be done inside the park. Hiking, as mentioned, can be a day trip or a multi-day backpack adventure. Multi-day backpack trips are only allowed during spring up till fall. Biking, is also available through the seasons of spring and fall, and is not allowed during the other seasons, though off-trail biking and mountain biking are all prohibited.

If you are the winter-type of person, Yosemite is available though most of the main roads are closed off because of heavy snowing. They have downhill skiing at the Badger Pass Ski Area, probably the oldest skiing area in Yosemite. They also hold winter events like the Bracebridge dinner.

Hot springs can be considered as one of the greater pleasures in life. Dipping in warm, tepid water while observing the lilting steam wafting up, caressing your skin. Probably drink tea and eat some sweets while you’re at it.

Hot springs are technically underground springs that come into contact with very hot rocks. The water is heated and bursts out steaming and rich with minerals, silicates and other geological components. This was where the rumors of therapy and medicinal value originated.

Hence, hot spring are usually found around areas near volcanoes. When water is able to dig in until it reaches a geothermal gradient hot enough to cause it to rise back up; a hot spring results. The conduction of heat also causes surrounding water to be affected by the heat as well. There are differences however. When the water is heated too much that it becomes steam and shoots out of the ground, it is termed as a geyser. In another manner, it is termed as a fumarole and when when mixed with mud and clay; the resulting product is called a mud pot.

A warm spring is the mixture of hot and cold (unheated) springs and may occur outside the area of responsibility of a volcanic vein. Hot spring lakes may also happen if an underground lake has access to a vein. This lake can feed several springs in the area nearby.

Lava Hot Springs is a city in Idaho that boasts a good spring flow rate, which is the amount of hot water spewed out of the underground fountain. The mineral rich water, full of calcium, lithium and several salts is a good tourist attraction and has a good audience with the people around the state.

Just be sure that you have no external wounds when bathing in one, to make sure that you don’t get any form of infection. Hot, mineral water is quite painful even to shallow cuts or abrasions.

Ever wondered what a good barbecue would be for a fair?

There are lots of things to think for a barbie. For one , you’d have to get the general consensus that the people involved in your “eat-out” would love the barbecue.

For one, offer variety. There are the meat lovers, and there are the vegens. You probably would have your share of people like this in your life. So when you have the time, go out shopping and have a few hands to bring in your goods. They could even choose what to buy, so that when the time comes for the barbecue, you’d have no hassles left to discuss whatsoever.

The second, is to decide when to start the grill. At least have one person man the grill while the others are out for fun and for sight-seeing. If this was a family trip, at least have dad or mum handle the grill. Or generally anyone who is more interested or tuned into the idea of grilling as fun rather than walking around and exploring the sights to see.

That person should be able to cook as well, unless you want to come back to a meal with nothing but blackened pieces of charcoal. Meat is generally the safest of the bunch, as it cooks long and is tough. Just avoid bringing in lean meat or anything that is rather expensive if the cook is a novice. Tough meat is much more harder to spoil when grilling.

Fish is in the consensus of a fast-grill type of food. And so are shrimps and prawns (which are usually found in cocktails). Lobster requires a grill-oven for nice cooking, and any other seafood should have it’s own cooking method.

Go for the open areas so you wouldn’t bother anyone with the smoke, and make sure to clear the grill of any live charcoal too. Go for fire safety.
