The Friend in High Places

No, I'm not about to admit to having the private phone number of some wealthy, influential person who I could call on to do me a favour! No, that's the wrong end of the stick. I'm referring to the prospect, or otherwise, of our jetting off to some warmer clime this summer.

With the virus still raging throughout certain parts of the world it looks as though it could be some considerable time before we're going to see the usual volume of holiday flights getting off the ground, as things stand at present. 'Staycation' could yet prove to be our watchword, with air travel for most of us only a distant memory. But speaking of memory, oh how well I recall the staycations of my youth. The miggies of Auchtermuchty, the puddles of Peebles, and yes, even the thunder of Rumbling Bridge! But nowadays of course, we probably wouldn't think we'd had a holiday unless we've hung around an airport terminal or 2, wondering why it's always our plane that's been delayed.

THE LOSS OF CONTROL

It probably won't surprise you to know that many of us find flying an anxiety-provoking experience, but do you know why? Well, researchers tell us that it's not the fear of crashing, it's the fact that having left the ground, we've lost control of our lives!

Mind you, isn't that just what God wants us to do – deliberately?

THE EXCESS BAGGAGE

When we discard the 'excess baggage' of all in our lives that offends Him and hand over control of our daily living to His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, He tells us that we can know a special quality of peace of mind, beyond compare...

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the

world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

John 14:27

Then, just as the law of aerodynamics overcomes the law of gravity, so we're able to say...

...through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free

from the law of sin and death.

Romans 8:2

THE RIGHT DESTINATION

Thankfully I've never (yet) found myself on the wrong flight, bound for the wrong destination, but if so, the consequences could prove extremely serious. And yet, the same is true when applied to life itself. The Bible says that many of us are already heading in the wrong direction, rebelling against the God who made us and whose Son died for us. And as a consequence we can be blissfully unaware that we face great peril...

Whoever believes in him (Jesus) is not condemned, but whoever does

not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.

John 3:18

THE DEPARTURE LOUNGE

When it comes to the journey of life 'now' is always the right time to be sure of your destination. Sadly some of us could well be in the 'departure lounge' of life and simply not realise it. But the good news is that 'reservations' can still be made today through becoming a follower of Jesus... the one and only true friend in high places!
