I'm sure we've all been impressed with how quickly anti COVID-19 vaccines have been discovered, developed and delivered into the arms of so many throughout the UK. And although we no doubt owe a debt of gratitude to all who have worked so hard to make this happen, it would be nice to hear someone acknowledge the part God played in the whole process. After all, wasn't it He who gave the scientists and medics their ability in the first place?
Now, I remember from school that a guy called Edward Jenner developed the concept of vaccination by combating smallpox with a dose of cowpox back around 1798... and it seems that the same concept is still just as relevant today. In layman's terms, the body is injected with a weakened or inactive version off the disease in question, so that it produces antibodies in self defence... thus providing the necessary protection from the full blown thing.
Yet this is an approach which applies not only in the medical sphere but also the spiritual. Vaccination has proved to be a wonderful way of preventing the likes of smallpox, cholera and rabies etc. But sadly a form of vaccination has had a similar effect upon the spiritual life of many millions over the years...
Throughout history so, so many men and women have been 'vaccinated' with a mild case of Christianity. And they believed this to be enough to please the Almighty sufficiently to guarantee them a place in heaven. Professor Clark Walsh, in his book, Early Christians of the First Century, said...
I suspect that Satan has called off his attempt to convert people to agnosticism. After all if a man travels
far enough away from Christianity he is liable to see it in perspective and decide that it is true. It is much
safer, from Satan's point of view, to vaccinate a man with a mild case of Christianity so as to protect
him from the real disease.
Whilst there are many good vaccines offering protection against many deadly diseases today, 'vaccination' with a mild case of Christianity must be avoided at all costs, for very important reasons. Belief in God, Baptism, Church Membership, having Christian parents, Church attendance, Charity work... even doing one's best to lead a good life, none of these is sufficient to put us 'right' with God and secure for us a place in heaven. There is only one way to find peace with God... through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ who says...
...I am the way and the truth and the life. No-one comes to the
Father except through me.
The real danger of being 'vaccinated' with a mild dose of Christianity is that it lures us into a false sense of security, leading to a lost Eternity. And for this reason it's, without doubt, the most dangerous vaccine of them all!
